Is Input Automation Safe in Path of Exile? An Honest Look

If you're considering a crafting automation tool, the first question is the right one: is it safe? The honest answer is that any automation carries risk under Path of Exile's Terms of Service, and no tool can truthfully promise you won't be actioned. What does differ is how invasive a tool is — and that's worth understanding before you decide.

Not all "cheats" are the same

Tools that interact with a game fall into very different technical categories, from least to most invasive:

1. Input simulation + screen/clipboard reading. The tool moves the mouse and presses keys like a person, and reads information the game already shows you (item text via Ctrl+C). It never touches the game's internals. This is the AutoHotkey category.
2. Memory reading. The tool reads the game's process memory to know things you couldn't see normally (exact values, hidden state). More invasive and easier to detect.
3. Packet manipulation / injection. The tool intercepts network traffic or injects code into the game process. The most invasive — and the category that draws the harshest action.

A clipboard-and-clicks crafting tool lives firmly in category 1. That doesn't make it allowed — automation of any kind can violate the ToS — but it's a meaningfully smaller footprint than memory or packet tools.

What actually raises flags

Automated behaviour tends to get noticed when it's mechanical and superhuman:

• Clicking the exact same pixel thousands of times.
• Perfectly even timing, like a metronome.
• Running for many hours unattended, non-stop.

Good tools mitigate the first two with randomised click positions and non-mechanical timing so the input looks human. The third one is on you: don't run automation unattended for hours.

How to reduce your exposure

• Roll only what you can afford to lose — items and, honestly, the account.
• Don't run it unattended. Be at the keyboard; stop if something looks off.
• Prefer least-invasive tools (input + clipboard, not memory/packets).
• Keep sessions reasonable. Marathon unattended runs are the riskiest pattern.
• Understand it's your call. The risk is real and it's yours to weigh.

The bottom line

Input-and-clipboard crafting automation is the lowest-footprint category, and a well-designed tool makes its behaviour look human — but "lower risk" is not "no risk."
